About the Doctor

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Magdy — MD, PhD, FESC, FRCP, FACC, Master of SCAI — has spent four decades in the practice and education of cardiology, working at the National Heart Institute in Cairo, Egypt's leading cardiac center. He rose to Chairman of Cardiology and has personally performed more than 10,000 coronary procedures. He was one of the first cardiologists who started interventional cardiology in Egypt; he later founded the Egyptian Board of Interventional Cardiology training program with the Egyptian Medical Council — the certificate recognizing consultants specialized in interventional cardiology — and became Chairman of the Board of this program.

He became one of the physicians who shaped the growth of interventional cardiology in Egypt and in the world. Over the last two decades Dr. Ahmed Magdy has been a faculty speaker in most of the international interventional cardiology meetings. He was nominated to the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (SCAI), later became their first International Ambassador, and was assigned Master of SCAI. He was also a leading cardiologist in the American C3 and ARCH meetings in interventional cardiology as a course co-director, Middle East Ambassador of the ACVC (European Acute Cardiovascular Care) of the European Society of Cardiology, and Middle East & African Ambassador of EAPCI (European Association of Intervention Cardiology).

He is a board member of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology, organized their annual conference several times, and was Chairman of the EgIC (Egyptian Working Group of Interventional Cardiology). He participated in an era in which primary angioplasty tripled and the country reached more than 55,000 coronary interventions a year, a story he himself documented as first author of Egypt's national report in EuroIntervention on behalf of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology.

Beyond the cath lab, his mission has been education: more than 500 cardiologists have graduated under his supervision through the Egyptian Fellowship Board of Cardiology, who became heads and consultants in the cath lab in their hospitals in Egypt and in the Middle East. He founded and chairs the Egyptian Board of Interventional Cardiology, chairs COMBAT-MI — Egypt's national conference and registry for acute coronary syndromes — and teaches on international stages from TCT in the USA to EuroPCR in Paris, and many others. He sees patients at three clinics: Maadi, Mohandessin, and New Cairo.
